Nyssa Senior Projects

Welcome to the Nyssa Senior Projects home page. This was created to be a resource for the students and parents to use while creating or planning their senior projects.

What is a Senior Project?

Senior Projects are an Oregon State requirement for graduation, made to help students with selecting their careers.

What to Expect

Welcome to the NHS Career Transitions class, otherwise known as Senior Projects. The purpose of this class is to help seniors thoroughly explore a career of interest. NHS students begin career research their freshmen year and build upon what they are learning concerning their interests, strengths and weaknesses all the way through their senior year. During a students junior year, they are required to do a job shadow in their area of interest. They are also informed of the senior project requirements and they create and submit a project proposal. This proposal must be approved by a panel. Once approved, students start their individual projects during their Career Transitions class, senior year. A 75% or higher in each element of the class --- the paper, presentation, project and time management --- are required to pass the class and meet the graduation requirement. This class differs from that of normal classes in that although students receive guidance from the instructor, it is very much self-directed and self-motivated. Our goal is to allow students opportunities throughout their high school career to explore their options, making the senior project a capstone to that learning experience. It has been very rewarding to watch students discover their passion and find ways to make it happen post-high school as a result, in part, of their senior project experience.
